Personal Silent Retreats

Published by peregrinus at 9:19 pm under Ramblings, Spirituality

This is kind of a combination of two of my recent posts.

For the past two years, I have made a three day group silent retreat through the Confraternity I belong to.

However, I have been trying to find a place near where I live to make a personal silent retreat that would be about a week long.  So far, I have found nothing that would suffice.  The only place that was remotely close is the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky.

I think I will bring this up with my Spiritual Director the next time I talk to him.

Silent retreats are such a wonderful experience. I used to make an annual 8 day silent retreat at a retreat house that is now, unfortunately, closed. I also am looking.

You may want to check out Opus Sanctorum Angelorum (see the link under Blogroll). There may a three day Silent Retreat near you.

I do prefer silent retreats. And if they are not silent, on the whole, I do prefer going by myself. More time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament instead of solcializing….

Gethsemane was the abbey of Thomas Merton. It might be well worth the drive for you. You are certainly closer than I.

I have a Benedictine monastery about an hour’s drive away which unfortunately does not offer silent retreats but it is awesome to go to Mass with the monks.
