Spiritual Reading

Published by peregrinus at 8:54 pm under Spirituality

Although I have not been doing much lately, I love reading the spiritual classics.

My favorite of all time is The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis. It is one of those books where you can meditate on one or two chapters at a time without being overloaded.

After Easter, I plan on doing a lot more reading.

I have often pondered doing as much of this that i could, but sometimes I am turned off by the languistic terminology that is such a HUGE barrier for me. It matters not the hunger to do so, as the barrier is a silent solid wall for me.

So many terrific thoughts, prayers and wonderful things are used in these books, as i have seen them used out of context. However, the TLM is an easy example that i have no idea what the FBI codeing means for so many catholics. Huge words denoting hiarchy in the church like magisterium…again, there are so many things mentiond in so many peoples posts, and i wonder, are there simplistic speakers of devotional types, or books that can help someone become closer spiritually, without needing a catholic dictionary to decode it, then translate it.

I know this is not the norm, but i gather that these words denote a position, rank and respect. If the code is not broken, the message is lost to the reader.

Just wondering your thoughts on this.
