Divine Mercy Sunday

Published by peregrinus at 7:24 pm under Spirituality

The Second Sunday of Easter is also know as Divine Mercy Sunday.

On 13 June 2002, to those Responsible for the Apostolic Penitentiary, granted the following Indulgences:

a plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honour of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!”);

A partial indulgence, granted to the faithful who, at least with a contrite heart, pray to the merciful Lord Jesus a legitimately approved invocation.

I wonder how many are even aware, and those who are aware partake, of the graces that are given to those who complete the above.

    I am a bit late with this but better late than never. Divine Mercy is my favourite devotion. A lot of people are not aware of this devotion as many priests do not talk about it. As for the plenary indulgence, again, is not explained at the pulpit, even by those priests who revere His Mercy in a special way. Most people do not read a lot of spiritual stuff but read Oprah’s reading list in a heartbeat! That is why I love going to Divine Mercy in Buffalo to celebrate the feast as many there are saturated with this devotion. The ministry itself at St Luke’s is founded on works of mercy and depend on God’s Providence to fulfill what needs to be done.

    As for the indulgence that I gain, I give it to Our Lady to do as she wishes with it….
