Is Relativism Imploding Our Society

Published by peregrinus at 8:18 pm under Ramblings, Responsible Stewarship

It seems every day that Relativism (especially Moral Relativism) is warping today’s society to the point that it may no longer be able to stand on its own.

With infanticide (contraceptives, abortion), pornography, and the likes being so pervasive, it seem the God’s moral truths are being forgotten. Without these absolute truths society had no foundation and will start to crumble.

Just the past couple of days, other and I have been in a protracted “discussion” with a couple of Secular Relativists on the immorality of contraception. Their only defense was “do not impose your morality on me”. However, they seem to have no qualms about government and the courts imposing their immorality on the populous.

As with civilizations in the past, the double standard of Relativism will be the downfall of today’s society if we do not change it. Of course, working with a clean slate may not be a bad thing other than the pain an suffering it would cause getting back.

I know how you feel; much of American society is very secular and neo-pagan, and while segments of the population are religious, the structures of the society, i.e., its public schools, government, entire court system are atheistic, even though America is trumpeted as one of the most religious nations.

I would hate to see what Europe is like if that is the case.

I would like America be a more moral nation, but I’m not going to place my happiness at the center of some stupid “society”.

I think it is good, that you are informing people about the decline of our nation into barbarism.

You just might want to ask the Secular Relativists to show you in the U.S. Constitution where it states they have a right to be free morality.

Also, Hobbes said that life was nasty, brutish, and short in a state of nature. Men banded together to create a state to assure mutual protection.

Since in a state of nature there were no rights, all rights are the given only by the state.

This goes against the Locke / Jefferson /Madisonian view (Madison limits it to life, liberty, and property, and the Bill of Rights (the first 10 Amendments) , but it is a good counter-argument against those who think they have a right to do anything they want to.
