Periods of Spiritual Dryness

Published by peregrinus at 10:40 pm under Ramblings, Spirituality

In the past, I have experienced periods of spiritual dryness.  Most of these have occurred during times of stress.  My latest bout is no exception.

However, where some of that stress is coming from this time I have not experienced before.  Usually it has been work (which is part of it this time) or family related.  This time, part of it is related to the parish I belong to.

I have chronicled the issues in other posts, but I am not sure how I am gonna get over this.  I love how the  Ordinary Form of the Mass is celebrated there and there is very few parishes that celebrate it with that level of reverence.

Maybe I need to take another retreat (personal this time) to revitalize myself.  I do not know.  I think I will bring this up with a priest I  know the next time I see him.

Spiritual dryness comes from so many sources. Although I am a St John of the Cross lover (He is my doctor), Fr Groeschel (he is my psychologist) explains that so well in his book: Spiritual Passages for those who seek! Absolutely delightful book! He explains different stages in our spiritual life but also in a psychological perspective. Which makes John of the Cross also more understandable. It is a must read for those who need this guidance and for those who truly want and desire to grow spriitually. Although I do have a SD that I meet with every month….I will bring up passages from Groeschel’s book as it is so down to earth.

Sometimes, we jsut can’t put into words what we are going through, Groeschel helps….my two cents! :-)
