What is the Greatest Threat to Today’s Society?

Published by peregrinus under Ramblings

Radical Islam (i.e. Terrorists)?
“Global Warming”?
Overpopulation?

The answer is none of these.

The greatest threat to today’s society is Relativism. On many occasions, Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out against relativism calling it a “denial of objective truth” and “the denial of moral truths.” Although it is too long to publish here, Pope Benedict states the following in his Address on Dictatorship of relativism address:

Today, a particularly insidious obstacle to the task of education is the massive presence in our society and culture of that relativism which, recognizing nothing as definitive, leaves as the ultimate criterion only the self with its desires. And under the semblance of freedom it becomes a prison for each one, for it separates people from one another, locking each person into his or her own ego

Relativism is so prevalent now, it is a “religion” to many and, although it claims to be tolerant, it is one of the most intolerant philosophies today.

We must combat Relativism and it many tentacles that are strangling society before it drags in into the abyss.
