Charities. Do we really give in line with the Teachings of the Catholic Church?
I wonder how careful we are in how we donate our monies to charities. Do we first research before we give or to we give without thinking.
It seem that there is articles almost weekly that brings scandal on a charity due to how they distributes funds or who it is associated with it. Most recently, it has been Habitat for Humanity and its association with Planned Parenthood.
Before I give to a charity, I make sure there is no association with anything that is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church. This means, however, there are very few charities on my giving list due to their funding of infanticide (abortion, contraception), embryonic stem cells, euthanasia, and the likes. Most of the charities I give to are Catholic in nature because of these restrictions.
What grates me when a Catholic says that they give to certain charities on the condition that the money does not go to activities that go against Catholic teachings. Don’t they know that only means that more funds can be funneled to the other activities.
We must be vigilant.
