What if Christ’s Birth Happened in Today’s World?

Published by peregrinus under Ramblings

Since we are celebrating Christ’s birth I would like to pose a question.  First, a little background.

History has been an interest of mine for years.  This includes alternative history in the vein of something like Harry Turtledove writes (although I have not read any of his books).  Now to the question.

What if the events leading upto Christ’s birth happened today?  If would be interesting with the anti-God sentiment of today’s Liberal Secular Relativist society.  If the equivalent to the ACLU got wind that God was about to become Man, would they try to force Mary to have an abortion?  Would they go to court to isolate Christ from his ministry on Earth?  Would they be the modern day Pharisees?

I would be interesting to look into the possibilities of transposing Christ’s birth and life into today’s world.

The Fruits of My Spiritual Growth

Published by peregrinus under Spirituality

It is amaizing how much I have changed in the past couple of years (essentially since joining the Confraternity of the Holy Guardian Angels.  I am much more calm that I was before.  Take tonight for example:

The pipes froze in the apartment across the hall due to the heat not on in the vacant apartment (my old apartment) below it. Guess what? Pipes broke in the bathroom and flooded both apartments downstairs. No damage in the upper apartments where I live.

Water had to be turned off. Cannot take a shower. Hopefully they will have it fixed in time for me to take a shower. If not, I will go over to work and take a shower there in the workout room.

If this happened a couple of years ago, I would be annoyed especially since I am leaving on a trip soon.  Now, I just figure out alternatives that will get me by until it is fixed.

Do we need another Sodom and Gomorrah to wake people up?

Published by peregrinus under Ramblings

With the rampant Relativism, Liberalism, and Materialism perverting society towards the brink of implosion, it may take a Sodom and Gomorrah type event for civilization to realize the error of their ways.

No, I am not advocating or hoping this will happen.  However, I am wondering what will it take for society to turn away from their ways and back to God.  Even if such an event were to occur, is society too far gone to realize their error and turn even firther away from God?

In this Advent/Christmas season, we celebrate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  Pray that the world comes to realize why he became man.

Maybe there is a Bright Lining in the Economic Crisis

While reading my normal internet sites for news (I rarely watch the news on TV due to the morbid spin), I came across this article:

Pope: crisis helps restore simplicity to Christmas

It kind of ties in to my previous blog entry: “Getting Back to the True Meaning of Christmas“, but in a different perspective.  With people spending less, more emphasis will be put on the true meaning of Christmas.

Hopefully, this will be a step towards sanity and away from the perverse Materialism that has enveloped the world.

Time for Breaking Things Up

Published by peregrinus under Distributism, Ramblings

And I mean breaking things up.  Globalization is to the point where we almost have Capitalistic Socialism.  Yes, instead of governments controlling everything directly, we have mega-corporations controlling the bulk of commercial output with indirect control by governments via over-regulation.  We need do get to more distributive economies that focus on the need of the people rather than the bottom line.

We need shatter this incestuous relationship between corporations and governments which is causing the major economic shock-waves today. We need do get to more distributive economies that focus on the need of the people rather than the bottom line and government control.

The first group that needs to be split up is banking.  We need to get back to point where banks cannot only go beyond state lines.  We also need to encourage Community Banks, Savings & Loans, and Credit Unions.  This will limit the scope of financial troubles.  It will also help economic development.  Banks tied to a specific area are more responsive to the needs of the area.

Second, we need to look at corporate oligopolies that control too much of particular industries.  Ones that come immeciately to mind are in retail, oil, communications, automotive (mainly automobile production), and food processing.   Not only do we need to look at how we can break them up, but also, encourage new competition in those industries.   There are many idle manufacturing facilities, that could be sold to people who want to get into many of these manufacturing area. In addition, some of these facilities, if there is no need for them in their current industry, could be used for emerging industries like alternative energy.

Finally, we need to consider one other breakup that noone wants to think about.  That is the breakup of the United States and the European Union.  These two have gotten to the point where they are mega-governments and are not responsive to the needs of the people.  In Europe, this would be simple.  Since the EU is relatively new, go back to the individual countries.  In the United States, this would be more difficult.  I do not propose each state going its separate ways (although that would probably be the best for distributism).  I am thinking more a regional breakup (i.e New England, the West Coast, etc).

These are just some ideas I have.

Getting Back to the True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas has been commericalized and secularized to the point where it is not even called Christmas anymore.  It is high time we get back to the real meaning and that is the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For me, I have not decorated for Christmas in year and I usually finish my “Christmas Shopping” before Thanksgiving (This year it was November 3rd).  That way I can concentrate on Advent and Christmas.  One thing new this year is that I am going to at least match what I bought in gifts for family this year and give it to charity which is part of true giving of oneself.
