Spirituality

Published by peregrinus

My spiritual growth is very important to me.

That is why I joined the Confraternity of the Holy Guardian Angels. Currently, I am an associate Member.

As time goes on, I am gravitating to the more traditional practices of the Church.  I am now going almost exclusively to the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. However, I am completely turned off by those TLM Onlyists that like to degrade the Ordinary Form of the Mass. Where I go, the Ordinary Form of the Mass is celebrated:

  • Ad Orientum
  • Chant in Latin for the Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei (95% of the time and based on the priest).
  • Communion of the Tongue using Intinction while at the Altar Rail
  • Mass sometime said completely in Latin (again based on the priest)

Books

  • The Imitation of Christ (Vintage Spiritual Classics) by Thomas a Kempis – Modern English translation of the classic without the trappings of the inclusive language trends.  Short chapters make it easy to use for reflections and meditations.
  • Purgatory Explained by S.J. Fr. F.X. Schouppe – First published in 1893, an excellent collection of the Saints and other on visions of purgatory, those who are in there, and how Purgatory for others can be shortened by our prayers
